Cetyl alcohol is a 16-C fatty alcohol with the chemical formula CH3(CH2)15OH. It can be produced from the reduction of palmitic acid.
It is used as a non gelling thickener, stabilizer, opacifier and co emulsifier. cetyl alcohol is commonly used as an emollient that is used to treat dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations, soften and moisturize the skin and hair.Adding cetyl alcohol to hair conditioner products increase the conditioning substantivity and reduces hair dryness.

It forms highly stable emulsions with excellent appearance and feel, compatible with a wide range of ingredients and pH 3-12.Soluble in oil phase of formulation. Used in creams, lotions, cream-gels, foundations, and hair conditioners.
