The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Years 70cl

The Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 12 Years Doublewood by The Balvenie stands out in the international whiskey scene for a particular 12-year maturation process which sees the whiskey first pass in American oak barrels that previously contained bourbon, then remain to refine in barrels ex-sherry, taking on character, softness, depth and fullness of taste.

Intense amber in color with orange reflections, the Doublewood of The Balvenie distillery opens with a vinous perfume, with notes of sherry and fruit, enriched with light hints of honey and vanilla. In the mouth it is smooth and soft, with a fascinating balance between sweet sensations of hazelnut and the spiciness of cinnamon and sherry.

The Balvenie double wood is one of the world's most loved Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. Launched in 1993 using a process designed by Malt Master David Stewart in 1982, now known commonly known as 'wood finishing'.

This whisky has spent 12 years in traditional whisky casks, American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads. Mellowing the maturing spirit and imparting warming layers of vanilla spiciness.

This is then moved to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for an additional nine months to increase complexity, bringing fruity, honeyed depths to the resulting Single Malt. Finally the whisky is then transferred to large oak vessels called “tuns” for 3-4 months to allow the whiskies to “marry” the whisky’s.
