Sugar supplies the quick energy needed to us but too much causes serious health problems. This issue goes back into prerecorded history and so does the medicine man's ways of treating it.
It was the insects that alerted him. Ants and flies had started gathering at his "pee tree" behind his hut. They, followed by an almost insatiable thirst coupled with fatigue, told him the sugar rot was starting to grow in him. Over the years he had seen these same symptoms in others of the tribe. Sweet urine, thirst, fatigue, and then wounds that wouldn't heal, blindness, and a final fall into the Next Woods...if left to run its course.
But the tribe was an old tribe with knowledge and learnings going back generations. As the tribe's healer, it was his responsibility to hold, use, and increase the understanding of how plants and mushrooms of their land can be used to help the people living there.
Muttering, he set to work collecting the special leaves and fruit he needed. But these plants were only part of the solution. He groaned a little to himself as he pictured what was to come - changes in diet, increased movement...but they were better than letting the sugar rot eat his body. And to be honest, he always had felt better when he started and ended his day with a walk, cut back on drinking the sweet honey mead, and ate at very specific times, stopping well before bed.
Standing up, he looked across the flower-filled field. In the distance he could hear shouts of the tribe's children as they played, running and throwing things. A smile crossed his lips. Listening carefully, he could pick out the whoops of his great granddaughter. She was only a few springs old but was drinking up the knowledge of their land. The old healer still had a lot to teach her. So much! And he couldn't think of anything more wonderful to do.
Knowledge of the beneficial power of plants and mushrooms has served humankind for thousands of years. This information was collected, expanded, and passed down for the wellbeing of the tribe. Travels and travelers introduced new plants with new powers. Nature's gifts maintained and supported us.
But after uncountable centuries, a new type of medicine man arose - the scientist. These scientists started tinkering with strange, new molecules and promised they’d work far better than the rough mixtures of the past. I know, because I was one of them. In some cases, we were right.
But in many cases the new, pure, synthetic compounds weren’t truly an improvement when judged honestly. During this age of scientific hubris, some of the scientists rejected the new and devoted their studies to the old, the ancient. The plants and mushrooms that had once healed the tribe were carefully teased apart, studying the powers of the individual molecules they contained, studying the miracles of which they were capable.
In this quest for understanding the components a universal truth was discovered…alone is weak, together is strong. No one molecule could be found that when used alone gave the benefit of using the entire leaf, flower, or root. It’s time to return to the whole.
The daily dose is four capsules per day. For best results, take two capsules with water before your first meal of the day and two capsules before your last meal of the day.
