BESTMEDICINE is a series of practical and authoritative guides providing detailed information for patients, carers and the general public that until now has only been available to the medical profession. This is in line with evidence from the United States showing that health outcomes are improved when self-care initiatives are encouraged. This philosophy has also been embraced in the UK with the NHS-led initiative - the Expert Patients Programme (www.expertpatients.nhs.uk).
BESTMEDICINE is the first independent source of information on acute and chronic illnesses taken from publications originally intended for the medical community, which has not been abridged or 'dumbed down' before being made widely available to the general public.
BESTMEDICINE focuses on specific medical conditions, reviewing the most important drugs currently available, illustrating how healthcare professionals manage their patients and providing guidance on how they might improve their practice.
Much of the content of BESTMEDICINE is drawn directly from the journal Drugs in Context (www.drugsincontext.com). With the addition of an informative Reader's Guide, a comprehensive Glossary and a selection of explanatory Patient Notes (written by Professor Mike Kirby), we hope that the knowledge you gain from reading this book will be empowering and will truly be the 'best medicine' for your condition.
BESTMEDICINE Erectile Dysfunction explores a problem that many men face. Erectile Dysfunction is a serious issue, not only because of the impact it has on patients' quality of life and well-being, but also because it is now considered to be an early warning sign for other conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. BESTMEDICINE Erectile Dysfunction reviews the evidence behind the most widely prescribed drugs used to improve male erectile function. Drugs such as Viagra® have received widespread coverage in the media, and this book describes in detail how these agents work and the key clinical trials that support their use.
